Hi M33,

Yeah, I think I have to agree with the past reviewer. The program your using is kind of limited. The good thing though is that your forced to make a unique and catchy rhythm when you don't have the better programs. I notice some ppl with really good programs make horribly composed (notation patterns) music because they can get away with the nice sounding instruments. Anyway, I don't think FL is the way to go. Too many people use FL and it produces such unoriginal stuff you hear so often on NG....exceptions are those with lots of FL experience who can come up with unique stuff.

So back to the song....there is only two instruments going. No drums or bass which makes the song kinda empty. I'm not a general rock fan so I don't technically know what makes a good rock song. I'll give you a 5/5 vote and 8/10 for being a really short loop. Practice with more musical patterns so that when you finally get a better music program, your ready to jump right into original stuff.

Bye for now

Hi again :)
Okay then.
Yah, my dad lost his job - laid off - and even if i wanted to get FL studio, I looked at the price for the fruityloops edition, and UGH! $129!?

You probably have no idea how old I am.
If you want to guess, send me a PM.

Hi Johhny,

I heard about this song in the forums so I checked it out. That is some long explanation for your song! Anyway, seems like your past reviews have covered everything...pros and cons. I'll just add some extra redundant stuff you probably already know about.

Well, first I think the song is weird. The beginning sounds generic...yes I heard that bass sound from other trance songs on youtube. Sounds awesome though. I like psytrance a bit so me like the fast bass pattern.

I don't like that high pitch sound at 30 seconds. You should have used a different instrument. I'm not digging the composition of this piece. It doesn't rise to a climax.

2:18 the guitar sounds awesome.....iif it weren't a trance song. This is the weird part. Again, I don't think a guitar should have been used in this song....or at least not play the lead role. That 30 seconds instrument is back again. Sorry, I'm just annoyed at that sound.

4:10 I like this part. Quite magical and happy. You really got to start changing that pattern which the bell is now playing. The diversity is really lacking in this piece. I do like the drum roll build up.

So I guess I can pretty much stop here. I'm hearing the same stuff again.

Its hard for me to tell how hard you spent on making this song. 3 months is a heck of a lot of work...but reading a past review by karco.....he said he noticed generic instruments. I personally do not own fl, cubase, or nexus....I use Logic studio. For the benefit of the doubt, I will assume you made all the instruments so big kudos....except for that 30 second instrument. :) As for the composition (the note patterns), I did not find it very difficult to make. However, that guitar sure brought an interesting spin to your song....more original I guess....but not original for the composition. So to conclude, this song sounds much better than a lot of songs on NG. I'm not a fan of diverse music, but if this makes you happy, I do think your music is less repetitive than pulstate stuff. However, he got signed so umm yeah. The rest of us are still learning including myself and the good thing is that were are all getting better together. Things are looking upwards for the NG musicians. GL with your future stuff (I know this is an old song of yours) and wish me luck too.

5/5 and 9/10 review.

Hey! Sorry for taking so long to respond to your review, I didnt even notice I had a new review until now.

Well first of all I want to say thank you for taking so much time and dedication to write this review, I really appreciate it, but as you can probably tell Ive already passed the skills I had when I made this song, so there isnt much in here that I didnt already know...but still thank you very much for your kind and awesome review ^^

Good luck to you too and have a nice week!

Hi Tuneit,

Hmm, so I don't recall ever hearing a techno song from you. Is this your first ever techno song? These are my concerns:

Good:
1) I like the filter rise of that lead instrument at the beginning of the song. The sonar sound is pretty neat too.
2) Dirty bass at 1:25. I love dirty instruments. Good job here
3) I'm enjoying the drums. You picked the right ones. Nice panning hi hats with the four to the floor beat. Me like.
4) 2:34 I kinda like the new instrument that comes in. Kinda has a mission impossible sound to it. This is the best part of the song.
5) The wind fx sounds are pretty nice. Never knew underwater actually had wind. :)

Hmm:
1) 17 seconds that lead instrument sounded neat when its filters were changing, but now I'm sensing the generic stuff. Especially at 45 seconds is where I'm not feeling the beat. I think the instrument needs a bit more work. It kinda sounds funny so that might be a good thing I guess.
2) Okay, so the sonar was cool for a bit, but now I heard it too many times. Needs to stop soon.
3) 3:30 I don't think was a good idea at all. Just listening to the sonar is kinda boring. Maybe instead of 32 seconds of sonar alone....cut it down to like 10 seconds or less.

Overall, the song has somewhat of a story feel. Bit repetitive and the lead instrument is not developed that well. I know you can make a much better instrument than the one used in this song. You seem to have the panning stuff understood. Mixing and mastering seems to be good too. Looks like your song got remixed according to the past reviewer. Congrats on that. 5/5 vote and 9/10 review.

Bye for now

zenodio responds:

Thanks a lot... But i like the sonar sound D=

Anyway thanks.

Sorry for the short respond...

Hi, Vapour,

Not bad of a song. I'm really lazy now so hope my review makes sense.

Beginning sounds pretty so keep that in your full version song. The big problem is the bass. Sounds quite generic. Maybe make it a lower pitch bass or make it sound more dirty. I like the fx wind effects.

I like the diversity in this song. 1:09 sounds quite calm. Not very "hard" of a beat. The party horn doesn't seem to give that "move it" feel. It may need some further modifications. Sounds a bit cheesy. Keep the delay panning effects and the happy bell sounds. I like them.

Lastly, try and make the song more diverse. I like that kind of music better....others may disagree.

5/5 vote and 9/10 review.

Bye for now

M1CKEH responds:

Wow, its actaulyl a nice review.
Really, thanks alot.
I will get onto those problems ASAP, thanks for the 5 /10 ! It really is appreciated :)
Myself, I noticed some wind problems, but they can easily be sorted.
The bass I shall chop and change, and the beat I will try to 'harden' and roughen without totally phucking the mastering up, lol.
I'll also try to relate more to the title of this song. Thanks a bunch.
I may jsut email you when i've improved :)

Chears,
Vapour.

Hey wait hmm review

Hi Duke,

This sounds like a mixture of techno and house music. You got me lost with the title of this song. This is some very weird song. Maybe the screwed up detuning your going for. Anyway.....

Good:

1) Hey, well you really went loud on the drums to start the song. I like that....though I'm a bit interested why you say my songs are too loud. This one seems to be a lot louder than my stuff.
2) 31 seconds I really like that techno saw like instrument. Very dirty...
3) I am digging the vibes at 1:02. Awesome sub bass. Reminds me of benny benassi changing style song.
4) 2:22 I like your mini build up into the next transition. Nuff said

Hmm:
1) Some very long drum intro. Some people may just get bored of the song before it even starts at 31 seconds.
2) Meh, what is with the dinky claps at 1:34. More power in those claps would have been much better. I guess you did that as a build up to 1:48?
3) Huh? 2:36 doesn't make sense. The transition was quite abrupt. I'm not a fan of dissonance so yeah don't like the detuning going on. All opinion of course.
4) Hmm, I guess your description of a 2 hour train is somewhat correct. Not as boring as a train ride that long, but kinda repetitive. At least you add a extra layer of an instrument to make it differentiate slightly from the previous parts. Really, you should have cut this song at the 4 minute mark and it would have been better.

Overall, I'm impressed with the production skills. Great job with the eq and automations. I hardly noticed the good fx sounds. That saw instrument was what sucked me into this song. Anyway, 5/5 vote and 9/10 review. Keep making this stuff. Its way better than those top 5 songs I hear. :)

Bye for now

DukeLukeProd responds:

Hey MS
Hmm as far as I remember I've never mentioned the loudness of your music in a negative context, on the contrary - the better your mix the more you can boost the volume. I might've complained about the volume of a single instrument though.
I think the saw is indeed a plain minimoog saw (from Spectrasonics Trilogy).

The detuning - what I've done here is an extreme version of what all those electro-house producers are currently doing (Deadmau5 can probably be seen as the originator) Can't say that I find it particularly pretty but it's certainly different and attracts your attention.
The track ain't much more than an experiment, I haven't put a lot of effort, thought or time into the song structure, just wanted to make the sound somewhat decent. But you're probably perfectly right about the additional instrument, without it there's not enough going on to justify the 6 and a half minutes.
However, thanks for the great review.
Cheers

Hi Izichi,

I'm not a real fan of DnB, but I have not reviewed one for some time.

The weird rapid drum taps in the background sounded kinda good. This is a different kind of dnb I never heard of before. Makes me feel like I'm in the middle of a war. Those rapid drum taps make me think of a gun. :)

I noticed that you didn't really change the drums. There isn't much going on. The pad is really nice, but I would like some more instruments and more composition. Maybe I missed it, but where is the bass? Unless you considered the pad to be the bass?

I enjoyed the fx sound. Reminds me of a jet flying over me.

So you can probably tell my dnb reviews are pretty horrid. I'm no expert so don't even bother with my advice. Anyway, 5/5 and 9/10 review. Your score is really high!

Bye for now

Jenni-Harry4eva3 responds:

Hahaha. No worries mate! Fan or not, I appreciate that you took the time to review! Yeah, this is my own kind of style. Hehhe. XD nice! A gun X3 lol. Well the drums do change, just that the kick is pretty muddy. You might have to turn up your volume to notice the change. The bass is there! Just been changed into a pad for awesome purposes lol. SO! It's a bass pad lol. X3 It's okay. Expert or not, I'm glad you liked it! That it is! It's the highest I've ever had actually o_o lol. Same to you!~

Hi Sky

Hi sky,

Since this is a demo I'm only going to give you a short review.

I thought the beginning was great. Really gets me hyped up for what is coming later.

Unfortunately I was a bit disappointed at 1:19. I think you should keep the fuzzy fx going at this part.

For the bass pattern I'm not sure what key your playing in but to make this easier I'll assume your in the C key. Instead of your bass playing C, C, F, F, G,G continuously; alternate with C,C,F,F,G,G,C,C,F,F,E,E. Transpose if your not playing in the c key.

34 seconds needs some backup support. Lead and kick only is kinda empty. Maybe a pad in the background?

49 secs I kinda like this part. Makes me feel happy. I don't think that hardcore kick fits in here too well. Maybe a less hardcore kick in this section.

Hope this helps. 5/5 vote and 9/10 review. Can you take a listen to my latest song....seems like that's the only way to get reviews.

Bye for now

Skylence responds:

thanks for the helpfull review =D

Hmm review

Hi Ian,

I purposely didn't review this song because I don't know much about ambience. However, since you asked, I'll try and make up feedback that might be helpful or not.

So, maybe it's just my headphones, but I think you have too much subbing of the pads that makes a muffled sound. Maybe lower the intensity of some of your filter bands.....not sure which one cause I don't know how you made the pad. Until 1:09 I am sensing a voyage....nice and simple and relaxing.

1:09 and later parts you add in some kicks and some fuzzy instrument. It was an okay addition. I don't think the kicks fit well for the mood of this song. As for the fuzzy instrument...decent but a different more mellow less fuzzy instrument might be better.

1:43 I kinda like the lead. The filter modulation on the lead instrument was good. I can't think of a better way to do your filter modulation speed. It was just right.

2:10 I also like the new mellow instrument that comes in. Percussion isn't hardcore so fits well. I don't mind the kicks in this section.

The final part with the flute should be longer. Slight bit of fuzziness here but not much to disturb the song.

So, I don't know if your album is going to be full of these slow pace relaxing ambient songs. I'm not a real fan of these kind of songs. I can enjoy one or two of these types of songs....but maybe having a full cd of stuff like this might be a bit boring.

Nothing much else to say except good luck with your cd. 5/5 and 9/10 rev.
Bye for now

XTriNovaX responds:

Thanks! I agree with the subbing, its actually peaking. I kinda left it in, because it sounds distorted, fits with the piece, and is subtle enough not to be a problem. When I make synths, I either use presets or tweak presets to what I need. Im glad you got into the mood of the piece, that points to a good composition :D.

I'm a little disappointed with the kick, it shouldn't be so prominent in the song, but until I (maybe) remaster this its gonna have to wait.

Didn't want the percussion to be very noticeable, just a flowing back beat. Maybe even have a synth be percussive. It seems i accomplished that.

Thanks for the review!

Review...short one

Hi Jebbal,

I'm kinda short on time. This review may not be very good, but hope it still is useful.

Well you get right into the action. I like that idea. Some interesting phasing and panning combinations along with the fx drum pannings add some coolness to this song.

49 seconds in and you made a transition to something already. I like the diversity already. The ackward part was the fx at 1:!2 and some other sparse parts. I think a better fx is needed.

1:29 I was hoping you could come up with some interesting bass line. Somewhat standard bass, drums, and mellow sounding instruments is not a bad thing, but you dragged this part on for a while. Where did all those funky fx sounds go?

Pretty much till the end of the song, there doesn't seem to be a new climax. Lots of stuff to chill too, but I guess since your beginning was energetic, I was expecting a return to the energetic stuff at the end.

Overall, I think you put lots of effort in this song. Lots of revision for the better. I'll give you 5/5 vote and 9/10 review. Your score tells me that maybe this could be on the top list next week. GL with that. Bye for now

Jebbal responds:

You must write some pretty huge reviews if this one's short! Its a good one though, you make good points. Actually, I had planned all along to put another part like the intro somewhere in there, but I couldn't figure out how to transition back into it. Everything I tried sounded awkward and didn't flow too well.

Those funky fx? I don't know! The rest of the song could probably use some more of those funky fx huh? Might give it more life. I still open the project file occasionally, I'll experiment a bit and see what I can come up with!

Hahaha I doubt this will make the top 30, it always drops down to like 4.37 sometime on tuesday. Keeping my fingers crossed though! It seems to do well when its near the top of the trance list! Thank you very much for your support and help throughout production, and thanks for the good scores!

Review

Hey Hopeku,

I'm impressed with how your coming up with 30 songs in 30 days. That takes a lot of inspiration....but the effort may be a bit questionable. Do you spend all day working on your songs? Any samples used? Big kudos if you have to go to school, study to get the good grades, and still have time to finish a song on the same day that actually isn't bad at all. Here is my review.

Good:
1) I really love the fx and panning instruments with delay. Really brings out the experience.
2) 26 seconds in...very good transition. In comes the arpeggios and the epicness ensues. Great job

Hmm:
1) Maybe its just me but some sounds are something I heard in other psytrance songs. This is only something I'm pondering. Not taking anything away from you. Just want to know more on how you made those fx....I might actually take your advice when I make fx sounds.
2) The looping is somewhat disconnected. This sounds more like a song.

The odd thing is why people aren't voting for your song. You have more downloads than votes so maybe you might have some competitors who want a higher score than you. Well I'm giving you the score this song deserves. 5/5 vote and 10/10. The only negative part on the composition was 1:50 to the end. Didn't like that lead instrument.

Make more of this psytrance stuff. Pretty awesome stuff.

Bye for now

hopeku responds:

Haha I love questions :) So that's why i'm going to answer them all.

I put about 5 or 6 hours on each song. Some took me more than 8 hours to finish and some others took me less than 3 hours so it really depends. I don't go to school at the moment and I don't work so that's why I started this project.
Actually, we could say I don't work BECAUSE I wanted to have all my time to make music. Still, you can consider that i'm inplicated in a lot of project. For example, we (Well, mostly DJ SEVENWAYS) have a radio show on AH.FM (Vision of Trance) and i'm actually setting things for my new school/first appartmentl and there would be a lot more to enumerate so that's why i'm stopping there haha.

As for the sounds/Samples, I only use samples for my percussions. Exemple : Hihats, clap, djembe kick and that's pretty much all since I make all my sounds FX, and everything else. But there's exeptions, like when I make orchestral songs with choirs and big drums, trust me it would be impossible to make this kind of sounds with synthetizers. As for my psytrance songs, I make my basslines and my own kicks ;)

For the competitors, I don't know what to say haha.

Thanks buddy!
