Hi Izichi,

I'm not a real fan of DnB, but I have not reviewed one for some time.

The weird rapid drum taps in the background sounded kinda good. This is a different kind of dnb I never heard of before. Makes me feel like I'm in the middle of a war. Those rapid drum taps make me think of a gun. :)

I noticed that you didn't really change the drums. There isn't much going on. The pad is really nice, but I would like some more instruments and more composition. Maybe I missed it, but where is the bass? Unless you considered the pad to be the bass?

I enjoyed the fx sound. Reminds me of a jet flying over me.

So you can probably tell my dnb reviews are pretty horrid. I'm no expert so don't even bother with my advice. Anyway, 5/5 and 9/10 review. Your score is really high!

Hahaha. No worries mate! Fan or not, I appreciate that you took the time to review! Yeah, this is my own kind of style. Hehhe. XD nice! A gun X3 lol. Well the drums do change, just that the kick is pretty muddy. You might have to turn up your volume to notice the change. The bass is there! Just been changed into a pad for awesome purposes lol. SO! It's a bass pad lol. X3 It's okay. Expert or not, I'm glad you liked it! That it is! It's the highest I've ever had actually o_o lol. Same to you!~

Hi Sky

Hi sky,

Since this is a demo I'm only going to give you a short review.

I thought the beginning was great. Really gets me hyped up for what is coming later.

Unfortunately I was a bit disappointed at 1:19. I think you should keep the fuzzy fx going at this part.

For the bass pattern I'm not sure what key your playing in but to make this easier I'll assume your in the C key. Instead of your bass playing C, C, F, F, G,G continuously; alternate with C,C,F,F,G,G,C,C,F,F,E,E. Transpose if your not playing in the c key.

34 seconds needs some backup support. Lead and kick only is kinda empty. Maybe a pad in the background?

49 secs I kinda like this part. Makes me feel happy. I don't think that hardcore kick fits in here too well. Maybe a less hardcore kick in this section.

Hope this helps. 5/5 vote and 9/10 review. Can you take a listen to my latest song....seems like that's the only way to get reviews.

Bye for now

Skylence responds:

thanks for the helpfull review =D

Hmm review

Hi Ian,

I purposely didn't review this song because I don't know much about ambience. However, since you asked, I'll try and make up feedback that might be helpful or not.

So, maybe it's just my headphones, but I think you have too much subbing of the pads that makes a muffled sound. Maybe lower the intensity of some of your filter bands.....not sure which one cause I don't know how you made the pad. Until 1:09 I am sensing a voyage....nice and simple and relaxing.

1:09 and later parts you add in some kicks and some fuzzy instrument. It was an okay addition. I don't think the kicks fit well for the mood of this song. As for the fuzzy instrument...decent but a different more mellow less fuzzy instrument might be better.

1:43 I kinda like the lead. The filter modulation on the lead instrument was good. I can't think of a better way to do your filter modulation speed. It was just right.

2:10 I also like the new mellow instrument that comes in. Percussion isn't hardcore so fits well. I don't mind the kicks in this section.

The final part with the flute should be longer. Slight bit of fuzziness here but not much to disturb the song.

So, I don't know if your album is going to be full of these slow pace relaxing ambient songs. I'm not a real fan of these kind of songs. I can enjoy one or two of these types of songs....but maybe having a full cd of stuff like this might be a bit boring.

Nothing much else to say except good luck with your cd. 5/5 and 9/10 rev.
Bye for now

XTriNovaX responds:

Thanks! I agree with the subbing, its actually peaking. I kinda left it in, because it sounds distorted, fits with the piece, and is subtle enough not to be a problem. When I make synths, I either use presets or tweak presets to what I need. Im glad you got into the mood of the piece, that points to a good composition :D.

I'm a little disappointed with the kick, it shouldn't be so prominent in the song, but until I (maybe) remaster this its gonna have to wait.

Didn't want the percussion to be very noticeable, just a flowing back beat. Maybe even have a synth be percussive. It seems i accomplished that.

Thanks for the review!

Hi M33,

I never heard of the music program you use. This song is pretty short so there isn't much for me to say. I'm also unsure of the limits your music program has making it difficult to tell you to improve something that you can't. Anyway, here is what I think.

For some reason the drums remind me of chrono cross in that level with the dinosaurs. This song is kinda arabian and jurassic. I like how you made a DnB song so different from the other DnB songs on NG. However, the problem comes from the lack of diversity. You don't have many instruments nor the drums changing patterns. There also seems to be a lack of effects such as panning and delay. Kudos on the mastering and mixing. Can hear everything clearly. I think this song would be good for a video game theme. Not that exciting as listening music. 5/5 vote and 9/10 review.

Review...short one

Hi Jebbal,

I'm kinda short on time. This review may not be very good, but hope it still is useful.

Well you get right into the action. I like that idea. Some interesting phasing and panning combinations along with the fx drum pannings add some coolness to this song.

49 seconds in and you made a transition to something already. I like the diversity already. The ackward part was the fx at 1:!2 and some other sparse parts. I think a better fx is needed.

1:29 I was hoping you could come up with some interesting bass line. Somewhat standard bass, drums, and mellow sounding instruments is not a bad thing, but you dragged this part on for a while. Where did all those funky fx sounds go?

Pretty much till the end of the song, there doesn't seem to be a new climax. Lots of stuff to chill too, but I guess since your beginning was energetic, I was expecting a return to the energetic stuff at the end.

Overall, I think you put lots of effort in this song. Lots of revision for the better. I'll give you 5/5 vote and 9/10 review. Your score tells me that maybe this could be on the top list next week. GL with that. Bye for now

Jebbal responds:

You must write some pretty huge reviews if this one's short! Its a good one though, you make good points. Actually, I had planned all along to put another part like the intro somewhere in there, but I couldn't figure out how to transition back into it. Everything I tried sounded awkward and didn't flow too well.

Those funky fx? I don't know! The rest of the song could probably use some more of those funky fx huh? Might give it more life. I still open the project file occasionally, I'll experiment a bit and see what I can come up with!

Hahaha I doubt this will make the top 30, it always drops down to like 4.37 sometime on tuesday. Keeping my fingers crossed though! It seems to do well when its near the top of the trance list! Thank you very much for your support and help throughout production, and thanks for the good scores!

Hey Hopeku,

I'm impressed with how your coming up with 30 songs in 30 days. That takes a lot of inspiration....but the effort may be a bit questionable. Do you spend all day working on your songs? Any samples used? Big kudos if you have to go to school, study to get the good grades, and still have time to finish a song on the same day that actually isn't bad at all. Here is my review.

Good:
1) I really love the fx and panning instruments with delay. Really brings out the experience.
2) 26 seconds in...very good transition. In comes the arpeggios and the epicness ensues. Great job

Hmm:
1) Maybe its just me but some sounds are something I heard in other psytrance songs. This is only something I'm pondering. Not taking anything away from you. Just want to know more on how you made those fx....I might actually take your advice when I make fx sounds.
2) The looping is somewhat disconnected. This sounds more like a song.

The odd thing is why people aren't voting for your song. You have more downloads than votes so maybe you might have some competitors who want a higher score than you. Well I'm giving you the score this song deserves. 5/5 vote and 10/10. The only negative part on the composition was 1:50 to the end. Didn't like that lead instrument.

Make more of this psytrance stuff. Pretty awesome stuff.

Bye for now

hopeku responds:

Haha I love questions :) So that's why i'm going to answer them all.

I put about 5 or 6 hours on each song. Some took me more than 8 hours to finish and some others took me less than 3 hours so it really depends. I don't go to school at the moment and I don't work so that's why I started this project.
Actually, we could say I don't work BECAUSE I wanted to have all my time to make music. Still, you can consider that i'm inplicated in a lot of project. For example, we (Well, mostly DJ SEVENWAYS) have a radio show on AH.FM (Vision of Trance) and i'm actually setting things for my new school/first appartmentl and there would be a lot more to enumerate so that's why i'm stopping there haha.

As for the sounds/Samples, I only use samples for my percussions. Exemple : Hihats, clap, djembe kick and that's pretty much all since I make all my sounds FX, and everything else. But there's exeptions, like when I make orchestral songs with choirs and big drums, trust me it would be impossible to make this kind of sounds with synthetizers. As for my psytrance songs, I make my basslines and my own kicks ;)

For the competitors, I don't know what to say haha.

Thanks buddy!

Hi ZB,

I have the power to make you get in one of the top song lists of the AP. Wednesday is just around the corner and I just love how songs everywhere start popping up in the high scores in hopes of getting in. I get to hear songs I've never heard yet that were hiding in the lowish 4 scores which I guess is a good thing. Here is what I think of your song.

Good:
1) I enjoyed the winter soothing theme for like 14 seconds.
2) Lots of your music is some happy hardcore anime kind of music. Lots of stuff playing notes quickly including the fast drum beats brings a slight rush.
3) Well, the ending fx was not so bad. Definitely a unique way of finishing a song so kudos.
4) I thought 1:22 to 1:32 was your best part. Not sure if you used the crowd fx which might be the only flaw, but great job. Should have made it longer.

Hmm:
1) Maybe the transition was too rapid for the wintery theme into your climax. 14 seconds is a bit too short.
2) Though I gave props for you using many fast beats, sometimes it would be better to use less notes. The guitar is doing it quite nicely, but having basically the whole song have 1 or 2 instruments playing rapid 16th notes can be a bit messy sounding. It doesn't seem to match with your nice instrument that starts at 14 seconds. It sounds like that instrument would have worked better in a more calmer song.
3) Hmm, random vocals. Interesting, but seems to be only used as a minor add on in hopes of showing more diversity.

Overall, I'll give you a 5/5 vote and 9/10 review. You might just get on the list if the blammer don't get you in the next hour or two.

Hi Thomas,

I can somewhat understand why you chose this title for the song. It could work in a video game title page. Here is what I thought.

Good:
1) I like your piano chords. For some reason, I heard this beat before. It actually had lyrics. I forgot the name of the artist that used the exact same piano chord pattern. Not surprising that I sense a familiarity. Too many songs in the world today one wonders how many patterns have not been used yet. Anyway, good piano pattern.
2) 39 seconds in I like the mood here. Relaxing music.
3) 1:18 I like what you did with the piano. The drums are very soft which fit well here.

Hmm:
1) I think your bell lead sound at 19 seconds is a bit too loud.
2) I guess for a loop, this is quite long but the main problem is that it doesn't loop back to the beginning very well. Some extra minor additions could easily fix that.

Overall, I think you did pretty good in this song. I do sense a lack of originality, but the song does sound soothing. I guess to improve your music writing skill is to get yourself a keyboard. It would be so annoying using the computer keyboard or pencil tool to compose all your music. 5/5 vote and 9/10 review.

Hah, review

Hi Pacman,

Lots of people have been saying the same thing...."COMMENT PLEASE i NEED FEEDBACK" or somewhere along that lines. Reviews are very hard to come by nowadays on NG. Anyway, since I'm a bit lazy today I'm going to only point out the problems with this song. Everything else I don't mention means you did good. :)

22 seconds of the song I did not like that bell like lead. Maybe good in a 16 bit video game but not for dance music.
51 seconds in I hear some messed up thumping. I did not like it that much. Is that from your sub kicks?
I think you dragged on that bell lead part way too long. I wanted to hear a new instrument. Also a different composition. Too many high frequency instruments. Where is the bass?

So the song has some interesting concepts but it gets old fast. I don't feel comfortable leaving only a negative review so here are your pros in a nutshell.
Beginning of the song had some really strange instrument which brought an ethnic feel. Nice. Percussion was different from the usual dance songs so kudos. The organ instrument was great. Overall a 5/5 vote and 9/10 review. By the way, nice song title.

Bye for now

Hi Disconnected,

The joy of the ability to delete music on NG. Well, I'm sure we can all say that we get better by first producing "sucky" music. Anyway, your song title interested me. Here is what I thought.

Good:
1) That background fx panning all around is really cool. Awesome job.
2) The beginning with only the piano going is quite emotional. Very pretty.
3) 45 seconds in I like composition here. That messed up guitar sound is funky. Also 1:04 the new instrument playing the chords is well thought of.
4) I'm impressed with the amount of diversity you put in this song. Lots of layering happening and you used quite a bit of instruments. Something tells me I'm going to enjoy your future stuff.
5) Never recognized this until around 3:20. Is that some choir briefly playing at each snare hit?

Hmm:
1) 27 seconds in was weird. The transition wasn't bad, but all of a sudden your playing your notes really fast. Took away the emotion fast. I also noticed a generic instrument that didn't seem to fit well in this section. It was that muffled trance lead sound I think.
2) 1:22 I'm not fond of the techno horn sounding instrument. That sound is better for party music, not something with gentle emotion in it.
3) 1:59 I think you should have used that guitar sound you used earlier in the song rather than have that messy trance lead playing the chords.

In conclusion, this song is quite interesting. It may need a better mix of instruments. Trance leads and party horns don't seem to mesh well with piano and guitar......well in some songs it does but not in your mellow song. 5/5 vote and 9/10 review. Keep up the good work.

Bye for now

DisconnectedFromGame responds:

And that is the kind of criticism and advice I need! Really appreciate you giving me the good and bad sides of it, thanks.
