Review
Hi Ian,
This must be some really high quality song. 6.4mb for less than a 3 minute song. Personally, as long as I can hear all the instruments and there is no clipping, I find the mastering and mixing to be just fine. I'm wondering how you got "Mars" from this song.
Umm, so I'm not the best person to review DnB music. Not a big fan of it. Anyway....
I like that alien theme sound to start the song. The amount of reverb seems just about right.
Well I guess drums is like 50% of the criteria for what makes good DnB music. I'm looking for some unique drum patterns, but I notice the standard drum beat. At least it doesn't sound like that familiar fruity loop dnb pattern tons of the unexperienced DnB musicians use. Your snare drum rolls seem to be in the right place at the right time.
You like to use a lot of those funky instruments. I guess it matches your mood your going for in your CD. I'm not sure if that's what other DnB artists on here prefer. (This doesn't refer to me since I'm not a DNB artist) I don't mind the bass, but I think the bass composition needs more variety. For example, at 56 seconds in you keep that same bass pattern going on for the rest of the song. At least, some automation changes might have added some diversity. I do have to give you kudos for the darker lower bass instrument. It has a simple pattern that is kinda give me dance vibes.
Some alien like fx sounds would have helped. Not sure if DnB is technically allowed to use anything else besides drums and bass.....but fx would make this song sound better.
Lastly, kudos on the kick pattern to end your song. Lots of musicians continually place the kicks in the most obvious places.
Here is a 5/5 vote and 9/10 review. I think since your CD is going to be ambient based, you should not put other genre of songs in the CD.
Bye for now
