Hi Charmanzer,

Pokemon fan? Sorry, had to ask. This song is pretty calming. This will be a short review since a short song...also won't be my typical review format.

Okay, so maybe its just me but this song sounds like a remix. The instrument is very nice. The pads only add to the emotion of this song. This song could work very well in a medieval themed game.

I like the progression into a more climatic theme, but due to the abrupt cutoff to end this song...it took away the feeling. Is this a demo? You should really expand on it or at least make it a loop. Keep it up with the classicals. 5/5 vote and 9/10 review

Bye for now

Charmanzer responds:

haha indeed i am ;D yeah it's a remix/cover. The thing about this one is that i don't know how to continue or, i know how to continue but i don't know with what :P anyways, thanks for the review! I will keep 'em coming!

Hey Tuneit,

I was quite impressed with the big explosion. How did you make that sound. Its awesome. Anyway here is my review.

Good:
1) Okay, deja vu again, yes I liked that beginning explosion.
2) Percussion especially the high hats sound very fresh and clear. Good job on the eq and filters if you used them.
3) Hmm,voox in here is always nice. Not a lot of vox which is sometimes a good thing. i just want to hear the beat.
4) Ending fx is sweet. You make some really neat sound fx.

Hmm:
1) Well I notice some off tune lead and pad sound. I'm not a fan of dissonance but just my opinion. Keep your key intact through the song.

2) Hmm a bit repetitive. I can see why you called this dance from the light. However, the beginning was some mean hardcore and the happy stuff just doesn't mesh very well. Happy doesn't go good with evil dark stuff (yes there are exceptions but yours is not)

Okay, so there isn't much going on in this song to really give a long review. Additional comments include the delay used on the vox and the sweeping effects which added to the difficulty of making this song. 5/5 vote and 9/10 review. I need a favor from you too like the past reviewer. I need some feedback on my trance connector song. Still a demo so any ideas would be nice.

Bye for now

zenodio responds:

Oh my god that review stunned me. And thanks for all the kind words, and i will do what you said i could improve. And that with how i made the effect in the start... Well... I didn't make it sorry i downloaded a pack full of WAV files where it was included, and i'm in love with that sound. You don't know how proud i am of that review you just gave me there. And yes i will check yout work out. Thanks alot.
I will keep making music untill i die!

Hey

Hi Ian,

So umm I'm not a ambient fan so I will review your trance song instead. Here is what I thought.

Good:
1) Haha. Those lyrics are ridiculous. This song is very cheesy which is probably a bad thing to many others, but I'm into cheesy stuff once in a while.
2) 1:41 oh I like this part. Some nice distorted bass and some panning background instrument sounds really neat with the headphones.
3) 2:26 a awesome instrument. Unfortunately that beat is old. Should come up with a more original beat but oh well...still catchy.

Hmm:
1) The song kept on getting cut out by the vocals disrupting the flow of the song. Less vocals and more music please.
2) 1:06 I don't like that high pitch instrument. The other background instrument is really nice, but the high pitch sound is way too skeaky. Needs a high cut filter on it.
3) Well I really appreciate how you made this song really diverse which I am all for (which you probably already knew) however, the risky thing about making diverse music is the flow of the song. That's what makes yours and my style of music much more difficult to make than mainstream music. You need to work on the flow of your song more. For example, 2:22 to 2:26 the transition was abrupt.

Okay, so I'm interested in what your future stuff will be like. I looked for 2 years on NG and only found one other person who made diverse electronic music like me. You are now number two which is really cool. Good luck with your future stuff and your temporary music block. 5/5 vote and 9/10 review. Sned me a PM whenever you have a new song and I'll check it out.

Bye for now

XTriNovaX responds:

:D I have a feeling me and you are going to be doing a lot of collabs....
I didn't like the high pitch either, so that's why i had it back off so abruptly.
I wanted it to be like a old cheesy hacker movie, kinda like the movie hackers, which is very funny (in a bad way) but with a bit of a modern touch. Glad you enjoyed it, im still trying to learn to cut drum beats, and you can see some of that in my ambient piece voyager. Glad you enjoyed it. :D

Hey

Hi Duke,

Well it took a while for your pablo song to go up the ranks. This song is pretty neat too. It's much different from a lot of the NG dance songs which are all happy hardcore or tons of white noise. No clue where you got cotton as a title. Here is a deeper explanation:

Good:
1) I like the mellow vibes with this song. Once in a while calming dance music can be great
2) The crystal bells and lead only increase the mellow mood of this song with that catchy bass line.
3) Fade outs, delay, panning I like.
4) I hear a lot of songs use a similar kind of whoosh fx sound to transition. I really need to find out how to make one like that.

Hmm:
1) Well you said you didn't put much effort in this project. I find making songs quick is the fun part of music. You must of had fun making this. However, the progression is not overly complex.
2) Nice drums, but you could add some new ones instead of the same one in the entire song. Maybe your love for house didn't make you recognize dance music has more drum variety?

For a 1 day project, I think you did pretty well. Keep making dance music because I hardly ever get to here something unique in this genre. You made my day...but I still have one more exam. :( 5/5 vote and 9/10 review.

Bye for now

DukeLukeProd responds:

Hey man!
There isn't a lot to the title other than the fact that both cotton and my song are soft ;) I'm happy that you dig this calmer approach to dance music. The delay/panning effects are mostly standard settings to get a wide sound with minimal effort. I've propably used 1/4 note left, 1/2 note right for the delay. Those transition-effects are very easy to do, as far as I recall I've just reversed a crash cymbal and applied a phaser along with some reverb. The cool thing is that you can do that with about any sound, even short percussion hits, all you need is a decent reverb.

I agree, the progression is fairly simple, you basically hear the same elements over and over, only in various combinations. The break is especially unexciting. To be honest, the only kind of drum variety I heard in commercial house/dance tracks so far was thus: kick, a low-cut version of it in the intro/outro and maybe another kick if the artist decided to throw in a breakbeat-style break. There are very few who deviate from that, I know 2, on the one hand you and on the other hand Marcus Schössow (Who, according to his statement, is on a mission to re-invent dance music, maybe you should check out his MySpace).

However, thanks for another fantastic review and good luck with your exam!

My opinion

This won't actually be a review, but some tips which you probably want more of.

I don't know about this song. It has good potential for NG . That does not mean it has potential outside of NG. Your style is no doubt popular on NG as you keep mentioning how many people have you favorited. I think that might be making you keep your same style. Your style is very 90 ish trance. Today's trance by the top artists such as dj tiesto, armin van burren, paul van dyk, dj toxic, oceanlab have a much different style from yours. Nothing wrong with having your own style, but your own style is a past time...in other words it has been done before. Now, don't get me wrong in thinking I'm trying to put you down. I still remember back then when you first started on NG how excited I was to have you make music. I knew you would make NG a much better place (audio portal). You did just that, but i noticed you have remained stagnant for some time now rather than progressing into the more professionally made music. I think NG is a place where we are all a nice big happy family in that we encourage each other and all of us bash whoever the blammer is. Nothing is wrong with that and I hope it stays that way. BUT the negative side to this is that you never really get the review that truly administers to the world view. Sure, we all support each other on NG, but put our songs in high profile clubs for money and the clubs would probably laugh at us. The truth is painful in a way, but that's life. I believe you have potential to follow in the footsteps of pulstate and even become one of the best producers worldwide. I would be disappointed if you kept stagnant in your progress to professionalism. You worked hard to get to where you are. Why stop now.

So finish your megamix because the NG people want you too. After that, take some time off to think how your going to manage the next big step. Your oh so close any your still young. 9/10 review and 5/5 vote.

Bye for now

F-777 responds:

Laugh at our music in clubs?! Haha no the standard music in clubs thats "Professional" as people call it is quite boring. I have gone to clubs with my music and have had people come up to me asking me to buy CD's.

"Professional" music nowadays means quite a boring trance song with a 10 minutes intro of just the same thing over and over...thats my oppinion =).

I don't think you have really followed my songs lately i have covered a lot of different areas but yes this isn't a super new style or anything...

BUT

Its Ep.1 =). I can't release my best episode for number 1 or else as it goes on people will be like "Its getting worse" when i would rather have then warm up and it gets better and better if that makes sense =).

Pulstate was good.
Armin's good.
Tiesto is pretty good.

BUT

Im not going to follow their footsteps. Thats EXACTLY what most people on NG are doing and are making themselves "wannabes". I make music that i like to make not trying to keep up with artists or be like "The big guys".

The thing that really makes me sad about this site too is everyone acts like we are in this box and that we post our music here and we all love each other but we arn't in the REAL world or some stupid shiz...and because almost everyone is like that they automatically assume that i am the same. Well i have made about 250 songs and NG only has about 80 of em =). Im not only on NG in the "Real world" as we call it im quite busy and almost everyone i have met has liked my music =).

Thank you for the encouragement i do appreciate the review i'm just stating my oppinions too =).

Thanks again!
(Don't worry next episodes are WAY more original)

One last thing i want to say:
I don't make my music FOR Ng.

Oh yes

Hi Duke,

This pawns a lot of the remixes on NG. This is how dance music should be. None of them cheesy fuzzy instruments with lots of pink noise. Okay, so this is what I thought.

Good:
1) Intro was good. Explosion into some nice oscillating panning lead with some awesome bass. What a way to start the song. Not sure if your idea or the original artist, but either way I like.
2) This is how dance music should be like. NG dance is like some awkward style of dance....generally all happy hardcore. This one sounds way more professional. Of course the strangeness comes in later in the song.

Hmm:
1) Drums at 1:50 are wierd. They seem better for a march or something. The past reviewer mentioned it too...not really fitting for a dance.
2) The composition at 1:50 to 4:50 I didn't like much. The rhythm is like some celtic dance. Weird. I suppose this comment pertains more to the Pablo. Heck. it seems everything after 1:50 I didn't like much. Just me I guess.

Well this song was way more repetitive than I would have enjoyed. The song started really good but slowly progressed to something I didn't find dance like unless I'm in a kilt. Anyway, it is very difficult for me to tell you what good things you did since I never heard of the original. However, I think you put a lot of effort in this song so i'll assume you made all the instruments. Remixes I never give a 10/10 cause well for obvious reasons. 9/10 review and 5/5 vote. You should po
st more in the dance section. Club dance is seriously lacking in that genre.

Bye for now

DukeLukeProd responds:

Hey man
Hahah I'm turning out to be really good at strangeness. The original is my favourite dance tune of all time and noone could reach a result equally as good as the original by a remix. You can listen to a part of it at amazon: http://www.amazon.de/Sun-Dance-Pablo-
Cezanne/dp/B0000669Z1/ref=sr_1_3?ie=U TF8&s=music&qid=1225631311&sr=8-3 The production quality isn't Hi-Fi but the composition is flawless, unfortunately you'd need the whole track to appreciate it. Basically what I did in this remix was transforming it from a 4/4 rhythm into a 3/4 one, at least this was the idea I started out with, it ended up sounding completely different than the original Sun Dance.

Good
1) I think that was one of my own ideas ;)

Hmm
I agree, it's not what one'd expect in dance music, yet I ike to surprise people with something completely out of place. I dunno, that's just me, I hate borders ;)

Thanks for another great review, if everyone practised reviewing like you, artist's skills would develop much faster.

Take care

Hi Valfan,

Well this is a interesting song. A neat style I have not heard. Its like classical mixed with hip hop and some house parts. I like your concept. Closer breakdown of what I thought of this song.

Good:
1) So the interesting mixtures of instruments as well as genre and emotions really makes this song stand out. Kudos
2) I'm enjoying the panning like drums....or maybe that's just a panning instrument I hear right at the start of the song and continues for a while.
3) 44 seconds in i like the piano and plucking strings taking control for a brief excerpt. 1:12 I also love them strings. Very cute and happy. Organ sounds good too.
4) I don't know what the vox is saying at 1:40. Is that even a voice? Sounds like it is saying "break" Anyway I like it.
5) 2:37 yeah sounds familiar but this is my favorite part. Great way to finish witht he cheesy fx.

Hmm:
1) I know everyone has their own opinion. In contrast to the previous reviewer, I think songs that change up alot are the good song. Keeps me listening instead of sleeping. Despite me saying that, I don't think your song is diverse enough. Your definitely closer to the style I enjoy that so many do not.

I liked the clarity in your instruments. Good mixing skills as well as coming up with some nice beats. 5/5 vote and 9/10 review.

Damn, what an awesome review!
Thank you very much for taking the time to write such detailed feedback! =)

There are no vocals btw.^^

Hey House music

Hi Zack,

I like dirty house too...french house still my favorite though. The song has the nice clubby feel typical in lots of house songs, but who can't love this stuff (biased opinion)

This will be a short review because the song is pretty short, doesn't progress much, and it's late where I live. Too bad you lost the song. You could have added a lot more stuff to this song to really bring out its potential. I like the drums a lot. Has almost a reggae feeling to it. Didn't like the techno vocals though. Is that voice a sample or your voice roboticized? I'm interested in what your future songs will be like. We need more of this kind of music on NG and less happy hardcore. 9/10 review and despite a unfinished song I'll still give you a 5/5 vote.

Bye for now

DJ-NOSEBLEED responds:

Thanks for the thoughtful review, Music-story.
This is actually inspired a bit by French house music, so a bit of that in theree as well :] .
The voice is made with the speech synthesizer in Fruity. I thought it added a nice touch, but everyone can have his/her own opinion.
Thanks again for the review!

Review

I agree with the past review. The beginning was a bit strange. It got pretty good as the song progressed. Here is my break down.

Good:

1) 18 secs in, I really like this happy part. It's almost like some radio edit or something. The filters you chose were nice and airy here.

2) 45 sec in, a great transition. Right into the bass. This sounds a bit epic....good title too.

3) For some reason I'm feeling gunstar heroes sega genesis music here. I loved that game so I suppose I would love this song too. That lead high pitch instrument is almost the exact replica of the instrument in gunstar heroes.

4) The drums were interesting. I notice a lot of NG dnb artists use that same fruity loops dnb drum loop. It is refreshing to here some new drum patterns.

5) Nice filter modulations and delay on the bass.

Hmm:
1) Besides the beginning, there were a few ackward parts. Example: 1:19 the transition was a bit too sudden. Maybe because the bass was such a big presence in this song that taking it away too quickly made a weird moment. 2:13 Okay, so I see your doing some crazy panning drums. I like it, but I think different drums might have been better....pattern good.....drum sound not so good.

2) This is going to be a issue for the both of us. I'm the one that likes continually changing music while you like the more repetitive/return to a similar beat. I think this song is a nice adventure music, but it is like a video game loop therefore a bit repetitive for me. My opinion of course. Continue with your style.

I liked this song. Too bad not many ppl get to hear it. I like this tempo of music....too many ppl on NG like fast music so I suppose this song may never reach top 5 though I do think it deserves it compared to the top 5 songs I generally here. 5/5 vote and 9/10 review.

No idea what conjure ones and royksopp's is.

Bye for now

DukeLukeProd responds:

Hey,
I clearly have to work on my song structures, I probably think too much instead of trying to feel what's right. Ah yes and remember not to use sidechaining like I did here - trigger: Kick, target:snare

Good
1) The filters are from the free "Izotope Vinyl" lowfi plugin, go check it out ;)

3) I've never heard of gunstar heroes but being on sega genesis it probably sounds awesome. Pure coincidence that I made the same sound :D

4) Not too long ago I despised music with loops in general because it's so much cheaper than programming drums on your own. But recently I've noticed how much the latter actually slowed me down, thus I threw in a few loops and suddenly producing was a lot more fun. Yet the only kinds of loops I'll ever use are hihats and percs, I want to retain the freedom of placing my kicks and snares where I want them.
Although I must say that the drumpattern in this track is anything but new, just different samples ;)

Hmm
1) I know what you mean, it makes the track seem like a megamix instead of a single piece.
2:13 Yeah I'm a bongo/conga fetishist, I've to have them everywhere, no matter if appropriate or not ^^

2) You're much better at doing your own thing, I'm the more commercial-influenced producer.

Music-portals hardly ever have objective rankings, but that's just how it is, the best an artist can hope for are helpful comments like yours, thanks mate!

I think you'd enjoy Röyksopp, very varied style, very different. Conjure One might be too relaxed for your taste.

Cheers!

I love the original. This one is nice too

Hey Viz,

When I first heard this song on you tube a while back, I'm like how does happy hardcore rave work so well. A lot of raves on youtube are the serious dark kind and way too depressing to hear. The only problem with the original and I guess naturally yours is the lyrics. Those lyrics are very poor. Anyway, on to your song.

Good:
1) Well for a remix, you kept the best composition in. Very catchy beat. Sounds like you used more brighter happy instruments. More happy is generally a good thing for me.
2) Well you obviously modified the voice. The lyrics as I said were cheesy enough but the voice was pretty lame in the original too. Yours isn't as dorky sounding....though I still think the voice is cheesy. Anyway you made a improvement on the voice so that's a good thing
3) I don't know if you used a distortion plugin. Sounds like you did. I'm going to assume you used distortion. I thought you put a good amount on that party horn sound.
4) Time of 1:36 to 1:38. This sounds like something I never heard in the original. "Bass" It caught me off guard. Music should be a surprise to listeners without disrupting the flow of the song and I guess despite only a very small section along with 2:04 to 2:06...a surprise is a surprise.

Change:
1) When the voice comes in there is this weird popping sound. It disappears or is masked well when more instruments come in...just pointing that out.
2) Maybe a bit more differences in drums might have helped. The drums don't seem much different from the original

Okay, so you know I can't give a 10 on remixes. I'd give a 10 if you were the original maker. This song and warriors of love are probably my two favorite happy hardcore songs. Great remix so I'll give you a 9/10 and 5/5 vote.

Bye for now

DJ-VIZ responds:

Thanks for the review man, long time no talk... I know the vox are a bit cheesy, but without em its not the same :] ... Anyway I love using those mini vocals, if you ever want the zip I have like a thousand, let me know! Thanks for the reviews....yours are always appreciated!
