Hey Alex,

So I'm on NG for a brief moment. I chose your dance song because I like dance music more than pop. This is what I thought.

Good:
1) Your title Tron seems quiet appropriate for this song. I don't know what a tron is, but I heard some video games which used that word in some robotic type games. Your instruments sound rather robotic like. Hmm, not sure why I wrote this.

2) I like the deep bass and kick sounds. Has lots of reverb and possibly sub bass. Really brings out the evil emotions. I also like the bass pattern and delay you put on it.

3) The panning of the digital like instrument is neat. The fx sounds are real neat too.

4) The standout part of this song is how you used the snare or are those shakers? There was not much in this song but you managed to make climaxes and transitions without the usual snare/shaker roll. Its all in the kick pattern that plays the conductor role. Good idea.

5) Your very close to hard style trance which I typically am not fond of. However, it still remained dance like and not head banger style with super loud kick and typical bass booming pattern.

SO SO:
1) The song as said by a past reviewer is redundant or too repetitive. The high pitch instruments essentially play the exact same pattern in the entire song. However, for stuff like progressive trance, your song would be considered diverse. I never did like progressive trance for that reason.

I don't have much else to say. Your lack of diversity and shortness of the song is what took away from this song. Your instruments are a great selection though. Keep making these cool instruments and add some variety and you will get a 10 from me. For now, 5/5 vote and 9/10 review.

Bye for now

Cool man thanks for reviewing it its good becouse you detail it and it helps me to improve thanks for takinf the time to do tht its appreciated ;)

Hey Alex,

Your posting a lot of songs really fast. You save them all up and now posting them all quickly or something like that?

Yeah, I hardly review anymore and if I do I usually review a random song. You want future reviews from me than continue to give me a pm.

This is what I thought of your song:

Good:
1) So you have lyrics. A bunch of your songs have mini lyric inserts which is a nice idea. Sampled vocals or did you make them? Either way, you put some nice effects and panning on the vox.
2) I enjoyed the dance drum style. 30 seconds in I like the brush sounding percussion. I think your kick... sounds like gabber style drums.
3) A good mixture of fast paced stuff and a slow ambient like section. Adds diversity.
4) 30 seconds in I like your filter and panning effects on that techno lead.

Hmm:
1) When the vocalist makes a warbled cry, it sounds strange. Eg. 53 seconds into the song. Too much warbled crys.
2) I'm sure you could have worked on the bass more. Maybe a more unique pattern or an effect on the bass could make things more party like.
3) A little bit repetitive for my taste. Use more instruments maybe? Not too many used in this song. However, it's not as repetitive as the trance songs I hear on NG.

So I suppose your song title is a attention grabber. The chaos feeling is slightly in this song which I enjoyed. I would have liked some new composition rather than a continued return to the same pattern. Have fun making music. 5/5 vote and 9/10 review.

Cool man thanks for reviewing yes i make lots of songs then i upload them i see what you mean about the voice now i dragged it on a bit long and it is a bit repetitive ill keep tht in mind when making more thanks for reviewing MS :)

Hey review

Hey Karco,

So I see you like the repetitive music. I'm going to adjust my scores based on trance...since I guess it has to be repetitive to be real trance. This is what I thought

Good:
1) I like the opening percussion. I don't know if there is a bass with that percussion...sounds like there is only on certain beats. This is all before the introduction of other instruments at 29 seconds.
2) Sounds a bit heaven like in 29 seconds and later. Same pattern until some small changes at 59 seconds. Maybe you were trying to use one of the instruments as a filler because I can hardly here it.
3) 2:28 I'm glad you got the percussion toned down a bit. I can hear more stuff now.

Weird:
1) 2:57 I didn't like the fade out and some wavy like effect of that one instrument. Was a little too long. I can hardly hear the accompanying instruments too.
2) got some clipping around the 4 minute mark or just some massive amounts of white noise. Either way, it's simple to fix.
3) I notice that background instrument that almost sounds like a choir is a bit too loud in some places. It sometimes doesn't have a in tune sound.

You got the beginning done nicely. I think you may have rushed the middle and ending parts of this song. The song has a lot of reverb which is great in lots of parts. A lil too much in some parts too. This song does have a mini journey feel to it so great job on giving the listener a space experience. I suppose you won't work on this song for a while. Oh well, time to get more inspiration to make this song better than it is now. Demo songs get 9/10 by me usually. No marks taken off for repetitiveness. Keep it up. 5/5 vote.

Bye for now

Karco responds:

Shoot, I haven't heard from you in forever. :O At least I haven't missed too much on your page, it seems... knowing you, though, you submitted a few songs and removed them later. You always do these days. D: And yeah, this song's a bit more repetitive. Like always, I'll go through your review, point by point:

Good:
1) Well, if by bass, you mean kick or bassdrum, there kinda is - it's a weak one that's part of the loop, which I EQed up a little bit.
2) Kinda does, huh? :) I don't think I had any "filler" instruments in that section, though...
3) Good to hear. Though I completely removed the drums, I didn't tone them down. :P

Weird: (ha, funny, you never say bad XD)
1) The wavy effect would be sidechaining... you could hardly hear some of the instruments, though? Definitely possible, I can see where you're coming from there.
2) Yeah, there's clipping/crackling/distorting throughout the song, I submitted this because I was sick of it and didn't feel like working on it anymore. In turn, I didn't bother with removing the crackling. ;)
3) Hm, too loud? I didn't think so, I could always turn it down some, though. And I'm pretty sure it was in tune... oh well. :\

The beginning was pretty good, but the middle didn't feel too rushed to me, and the ending was where I was still working when I quit working on this song. :\ Yeah, there's lots of reverb, and yeah, it crowds the song a bit sometimes. XD The journey feel was... somewhat intended, I guess. I was aiming at something else though you can look at it that way. And I don't think I'll be working on this one for a while, if at all. Oh well. :\ And, you know, instead of ignoring repetitiveness, you can just judge it by a different standard. ;D

Thanks for the review and the 5. :D

Space music I like

Hey Korpze,

Umm, nice name. :) I like space stuff a lot so your song title got my attention. Here is what I thought:

Good:
1) Good fade in. The instruments are more funky than space like. However the atmospheric sweep is a great background instrument.
2) 1:28 I like the new theme. Good build up. May be some clipping going on but no big deal. I like that new bright instrument in this section. To clarify I'm talking about the instrument at 2:20 that does a duet with the digital background sound.
3) The snare rolls fit in well. The use of your filters was well done to make the wind effect.
4) I enjoyed your fx sounds.

Hmm:
1) The biggest problem for this song is the lack of diversity. It's essentially the exact same stuff but different instruments play. Though your brief silences did add diversity as well as the continually changing filters and instruments used, I'm looking more for the compositional changes.
2) The clipping gets pretty bad at 4:37. I think its your filter problem here.
3) Umm, what's with the weird ending?

Fortunately with NG you can edit your song as many times as you want. You can fix more stuff with ease. Not saying, it's a big problem, but try and work on the instruments. They sound a bit cheesy, but if you were going for happy space stuff than forget what I said. Keep it up. 5/5 and 9/10 review.

Bye for now

Korpze responds:

Yeah... I'm not really a pro at making up good names for the song, it reminds me of something spacy on the begining. I dont see how people mark things as useless... this review isnt useless, pretty good for me to use. I only mark it as useless or abusive if... its abusive or useless lol. If its a good review and useless, i wont mark anything. If its a bad review and useless, then ill mark useless... anyway, thx for the review.

Hey Brownie,

I'm not much of a super smash bro fan. I haven't played that game in so long that I don't even remember this song you remixed. Yours sounds a bit dance like. Here is what I thought.

Good:
1) The beginning was great. Like the slight build up fx. It cut off quickly though.
2) 19 seconds in I like the diving sub bass like instruments. Brief, but cool.
3) That techno lead is quite happy. I like happy sounds.
4) Drums seem to match very well with this song.
5) 35 seconds in was a great transition from climax to a new buildup.
6) The bass sounds awesome.

Hmm:
1) Well, the ending was weird. Didn't loop very good

This is quite a good remix for a video game. It's not cheesy with some poor made instruments. Well done on constructing them. You should make your own video game song next time instead of remixing a old song. Much more rewarding making your own composition. 5/5 and 10/10. The songs keep getting better on NG. I hardly give 10 reviews, but I have a weakness for happy music. :)
Bye for now

Sirbrownie responds:

Thanks man!
Ill try to improve in the negative in my next scores.
I have been trying to write some original scores but they come out pretty funky.
I did get a good one with my secret of Ark track.
Check it out!

Review

Hey Melonsquare,

So your first song ehh? Well I'm going to be very encouraging. Here is what I thought

Well, it is better than my very first song. I deleted it because it was soo bad. :) You have the techno sounds and some happy medium core stuff. I like that techno fx you have. I like the fast attack on the lead techno instrument.

26 seconds in you have a soothing synth which I enjoy.

Here are some suggestions:
You need to make sure your instruments are on key. I notice too much dissonance. Make sure you keep your composition at a constant key signature.
Have more variety with the drums and change the composition of the techno leads and synth to keep things diverse.

Why did you delay this submission for so long? Overall, it reminded me of snes games. Don't know what band is Marathon....I know a video game is called Marathon which is produced by bungie. It doesn't sound like your song though. Keep up the great work. Again, work on keeping everything in tune and everything will sound good. 10/10 to start you off. 5/5 vote too.

Bye for now

MelonSquare responds:

Well, thanks for the review, Music-story.

As for the delay, I had uploaded Supersonic first because I thought it was better, thus having a better reception. Then, I realized that I had Fusion left, the first one I made. Both were made in late 2007/early 2008, and are my only full music creations so far.

I wouldn't say I'm much of a music man, as you can see. I don't have much experience with it (I play by ear) nor do I have much inspiration. But don't think this will be the last of me in the audio session, there will be more.

EDIT: By the way, Marathon was a game, not a band, exactly the one you mentioned. I didn't see any similarities either, who knows.

Review time

Hey FW,

Some real instruments playing here. Great job on whoever played the instruments. I am a bit confused about the 4 people you talk about. I hear the electric guitar, the acoustic guitar, and the bass. That means 3 people....unless your the one doing the sound? This is what I thought.

Good:
1) Real instruments = talent needed to play them. That already puts you or whoever of you 4 played these trio of instruments way above a lot of NG musicians.
2) I like the electric guitar. It isn't overly distorted and has no spikes in volume. Strumming the strings at almost a constant force...nice job... unless your doing some really good sound checking (if you were the sound guy)
3) I like the change in speed of the song. Sometimes the bass plays sparse notes and sometimes plays a bunch of notes quickly. Adds variety.
4) Oh, I heard the panning to end the song. Now that was nice to hear.

Changes:
1) Well the electric guitar is creating the diversity. The other two instruments aren't really changing much in composition.
2) The acoustic guitar is playing somewhat generic chords over and over again. Yeah it changes in a few parts, just not enough to really take notice.
3) Nice general rock song, but you may need some drums in here. Or maybe try a piano synth included. Having all string instruments play is good, but a different category of instruments meshed together sounds better.

So, the song is well mixed and mastered. Kudos to you if you were the sound guy. More kudos to you if you were one of the players. Put some vocals in this song in the future. For some reason I feel like I heard a song with vocals before that used the same acoustic guitar pattern that's why I just think vocals would be perfect in this song. 5/5 vote and 9/10 review. Oh and tell Mark, Zoey, and Tim that I said you all did a good job playing the instruments and sound checking.

Oh wish me luck on my final exam which is tomorrow!!!
Bye for now.

wolf-tech responds:

Well this whole thing was just improv. The 3 guys you hear playing just jam out at the end of church service.

Yes i was doing sound, I decided to record them at the last second with a simple tascam cd recorder lol.

Obviously I do sound check before service, I was using a compressor and limiter on the guitar which is built into the soundboard. As for mixing the instruments into the cd recorder I have it on stereo and i set the volume input induviduly for the bass, a guitar, and e guitar. I also did the panning and eq for the instruments but having a digital live mixing board helps me do that cool stuff too lol.

As for ideas on changes i can't do much since it was all random lol. Well thanks for the rev and gl on your finals tmw

Well I only have two choices

Hey SuperKirbyMaster (SKM for short),

You only got two audios so I choose your most recent one. Let's see how your friends had inspired you to make.

Good:
1) The starting bass sounds pretty funky. Actually a lot of your instruments sound funky. Kinda alien like. Reminds me of my old alien song.
2) I like the distorted guitar. Lots of fuzziness and very heavy metal sounding. It does cut out instantly though which might be a minor problem.
3) 2:08 I like your use of panning. Some good lasers too.
4) Hah, the ending was soo ackward that I enjoyed it. Weird combination of instruments. The shingles? caught me off guard completely.

Okay:
1) 34 seconds in I didn't like that new bass coming in. A bit too cheesy and kind of just cuts off. Change the sound I guess. The composition isn't so bad. Simple pattern....still happy though.
2) 1:34 the brief silence to the nice guitarish sound was a strange moment.
3) Note: not saying this just because you said that in my song....but I think your bass pattern is kinda repetitive too. Seems to be the same for most if not all the song.

Overall, I thought the funk like tune was a good experience away from the intense trance/dance/techno songs on NG. A mellow beat with some odd sounds make this a new feeling for me. However, I didn't see the song reach a specific peak. It kind of mini climaxed than went back down again. The problem with making these kinds of songs is that not many people on NG like them. Once in a while they are good for me...yours was. 5/5 vote and 9/10 review. Keep it up.

Bye for now

SuperKirbyMaster responds:

Thanks, man.

But to tell you the truth, I just took a bunch of random beats, put it together, and it came out pretty good XD

I don't even know what panning is!

Hey.

Hi Noizaholic,

I think you posted your song during blaming time. I know the other songs that were submitted at the same time as mine were all blamed too. Oh well. We just gotta earn our spot back to a decent rating.

The drums are DnB. Has a unique pattern. Did you make it or is that a DnB drum loop? This is what I thought:

Good:
1) The beginning sounds church like if that makes sense to you. I like the bells. Something strange but different. Different is good.
2) 28 seconds in I like that digital like sound. Good stereo delay. Your best part. Again the bass kinda ruins it when it comes back.
3) As a song, it almost loops perfectly. I think this should be a loop. So umm, good loop.

Hmm:
1) I think the bass was a bit too distorted. It didn't sound clean. Plus it cut off really quick. Maybe put a longer delay time and/or sustain on it. Make less distorted, and maybe put a oscillator on it or some delay.
2) Not much is going on for what you call a "song" so that needs fixing.

In conclusion, a short song so I don't have much to say. Just fixing the bass can make this sound much better. As for making melodies, take lots of time to make a song. I tend to take no less than a month making a song. Heck, a month is pretty short too. Make a bunch of mini songs and take the best instruments and compositions of each and mesh them into one song. As for trying something trippy, use tape delay (or the delay where you choose the delay on each speaker) and make one of the speaker's have a slight (not too much) delay on it. Get's the whole jumpy feeling. Your better than me in DnB. I don't make this genre of music. Keep it up...and yes your song really got hit hard with zeros. Your score was 1.37/5. I will 5 it and give you a 9/10 review.

Bye for now

Noizaholic responds:

Thanks for the review Music - Story

And yes I did make the beat. Yeah I hate blammers. The bass was not something I usually did so I was suprised it was that good. I understand how you can say its a loop but if you check out ParagonX9, she makes short amazing songs and thats how I'm trying to do it right now. Well, for that song maybe! So yeah, I really love hearing your advice!

Thanks again!

Happy easter

Hmm, well time to go back to reviewing songs from artists I knew a while back. Hope your CD is going well. This is what I thought.

Good:
1) Your 1st instrument reminds me of g-rave instruments. It's a okay instrument. Maybe cause I heard it so many times in his songs that it isn't shocking value here. Still it fit in the song which makes it good.
2) I like your atmospheric fx sounds. Heavenly happy I suppose.
3) 50 seconds in I like the percussion.
4) I notice the panning going on in that digital instrument. Neat idea.

Changes:
1) I have to be critical on this. That beginning melody is very unoriginal. Need to find something more original. Everyone knows that pattern (well I do)
2) 43 seconds in again that lead instrument is playing quite a common pattern. Oh well. It's happy :)
3) The song seems to repeat the same stuff for a while. It didn't really reach a climax...but then maybe you purposely didn't want that.

Overall, the song had some good stuff in it. I didn't experience anything new except for the fx. All said and done, you had a happy vibe going and you know I tend to like those kinds of songs. Work on the originality factor. I also notice a lot of your instruments are somewhat similar in all your songs. Now, I don't want to say anything because if that's your style than go ahead with these kind of instruments. However, I just wanted to point it out. Again, GL with your CD. Hope it goes well. 5/5 vote and 9/10 review.

Bye for now
