Hi Elph,

I like how your trying to get the nice distorted sounds. My main concern with this song is the patterns used. It seems to be the same lead pattern...plus the pattern iseems to be more fitting for a younger audience. Kinda makes your song sound cute....I don't think that's what you were going for.

However, the effects and the nice touch on the reverb is well done. The percussion is clear, happy instruments seem to work well together. Honestly, I'm not a big fan of happy hardcore music. I like happy classical or happy anything but hardcore. For that reason, I can't really critique your song very well. I am definitely seeing a improvement by you. Keep it up. 5/5 and 9/10 review.

Hey,

Hmm, ambient? The drums seem to be intrusive as well as the bass. Oh well, who cares. This is what I thought of your song.

I'm thinking you need to revamp your instruments. The drums are good enough, but I don't like your sweeps. They sound very generic and not that pretty sounding. Perhaps in a more funky based song these sweeps might have worked.

The piano pattern seems to work more for a classical song. This is a tough song to review because I think you used the wrong instruments. The drums don't really mesh well with any of the instruments, same goes for sweeps, and the piano. The composition isn't bad, but instrument selection is just as important in making a good song.

As for the mastering, no clipping heard. The mixing for the most part is good too...the bass may be a bit overpowering, but everything else sounds good.

I'm kinda curious by what you mean by bumping this song from an 8 to 10. 10 as is maximum effort?

Overall, I assume this song was experimental. 4 hours of work only gets you so far, but you accomplished quite a bit in that amount of time. Maybe a few more hours and you might come up with a more original less random sounding piano pattern. 5/5 and 9/10 review.

Yeah Damn that bass sounds awesome too me, but it is a little loud, i suppose its just to fill my needs and noone elses lol.

Yeah before I only did 2 hours on this song and most people gave it an 8, so then I added another 2 hours of work onto it :D

I like the tempo of house music. Sounds more dance like. Here is what i thought.

Hmm, not sure about the low man's voice. Probably because I don't know what he is saying except for the DJ part. However the other vox sounds sound good. At least they aren't saying phrases like "get up and dance" or something that orders the listener to dance. Vox at 18 seconds sounded so familiar. Took me a while to where I heard that from. Its the vox from DDR Superstar song. Brought back old memories.

32 seconds I like your lead instrument, but not so much of the background fuzzy instrument. Probably just me since I'm not a big fan of white noise instruments unless they are fx sounds.

Best part of the song is at 1:04. I'm not sure of the transition to this great part of the song. The low man's voice made the transition sound a bit smoother, but again I'm not a fan of that guy's voice.

So a nice return back to the previous portions of the song. Brings everything together. Overall, I like the patterns used. Especially the one that sounds like a flute. Some spots the transition may need some work and the low man's voice needs to go, but everything else sounds good to me.

5/5 and 9/10 Oh, I am a bad reviewer of hip hop music so for what's best for both of us, I won't review that one.

haha the low voice just says dj viz productions, I recorded through a shitty mic and made it deeper with some reverb and stuff which is why it sounds abit wierd...yeah I think that background instrument is just personal preference some love it some hate it...alright thanks for the nice feedback and the review and votes! Hi,

First thing to fix. Don't tell the listener what he or she is supposed to imagine. That is the listener's job. I didn't bother reading your long comment so I can give you a unbiased description of what I thought of this song.

Nice thunder and rain fx and a good fade in to start the song. The drums work well in this song. The pads and background instrument does bring a calm oasis feel. I like your tremelo or panning delay effects to some of your instruments.

The concern I have with this song is that the piano isn't playing a intriguing pattern. Its playing like one note with no complex chords or arpeggios. Now I can see simple piano patterns in trance music because of the excessive reverb, but in this oasis type song there needs to be more.

I like how you ended the song. Most of your song is good. I'm looking for the lead part (the piano) to take a bigger role, but other than that you did a good job. As for what I pictured, it was like I was in a beautiful garden with a creek nearby. The drums may have took away some of the tranquilty, but I was always a fan of the dance drum beats. 5/5 and 9/10 review.

This is not a remix? Your own vocals and composition? I'm really impressed with this song. The bass is playing a very catchy beat. Not a big fan of the organ sounding instrument. The vocals are a real hit in this song. I'm going to assume that you made the vocals and practically everything. (no pre sampled stuff) There really isn't much more I can say except really nice job here.

5/5 and 10/10

Hmm, so I have not heard of your old stuff, but kudos for making the effort to improve. Very long description. Okay, so this is how I thought:

The beginning radio scratchy effect to your instruments was really cool. However, after that, the song didn't really get me dancing. The vox I heard all before. I think you were trying to get the listener into the dance mood with the lyrics, but I thought that only brought in the cheesy factor. Keep the short vox stuff to the emcee.

I noticed the layering of the basses. A nice thing to do, but the deeper bass just didn't get me moving. Maybe a different bass sound like say a real sounding electric bass.

27 seconds maybe you intentionally made the trance lead quiet, but I would have liked it play a more up front role. Nice idea, but I think you should have just done a decrescendo to 41 seconds.

Nice job with the automation of the filters.

Okay, so I know I said this already, but seriously the count down and the crowd cheering is not something I like at all. It shows that your trying too hard to get your song sounding more dance like. Trust your patterns alone to get the listener dancing. Once you have that confidence in your music, great music will come.

Anyway, I like how your honest about your facts. I believe you that this song has 12 patterns. Despite my critique, I enjoyed this loop. Your a lot better than many other dance musicians on NG so congrats and welcome back.

Thank you very very very very much for your review! I understand fully what your point is, but i've realised that with most dance songs, they do have crouds (or Crowds) playting in the background to give the listener the feel of actualy being in the croud? Or maybe i'm wrong.

Anyway, i didnt layer the bass, i mastered it with a Parametric EQ 2. It took me a long time to get that heavy feel to it, and i did the same with the kick drum.

The vocals were just something that i dug out of the bottom of my sample library, but anyways

Not much of a indie fan. Don't know much about what makes good indie music. My review will be short.

I found this song to be quite nice. I think your electric guitar might need to be mastered better. I hear slight clipping once in a while or if not maybe excessive feedback when you hold the note down.

52 seconds the song just seems to cut off ackwardly. Its only a minor error though.

That's all I got to say. I have never read the book your talking about. Give me a brief description of the book if you have time and I may just take a look at it.

Well to be honest, I don't think this song really fits under any genre. I just put it under indie because I didn't really have anything else to put it under.

About the electric guitar, I totally see where your coming from. Sadly, it took me hours to make it sound just "okay". That's definately my least favorite part of writing songs, finding the right guitar tone I mean. But like I said, it's just a rough draft.

About the book, I really, REALLY, reccommend it. I know your asking for me to describe it but I am afraid it is indescribable. I strongly urge you to go to your local bookstore and just take a look at it. I assure you it is like no book you've read before. Some might even describe it as life changing.

The name has too make sense. :) Japanese people like the distorted meany guitar in their electronic music. I just hear some cheesy instruments. The song is fast pace which might bring the rave feel,,,,maybe not.

Besides the name, your song is somewhat crazy. I would have liked some new melodies rather than the same lead pattern. I'm impressed with your fx transition sounds. Me like the revving down sound.

This isn't really my type of music, but for the most part I think you were going for crazy and you almost hit it. For that I give you 5/5 and 9/10 review.

Hi Alex,

Sorry for the very late response to your pm. I kinda got bored of listening to and making music, but I'm temporary back into it.

Honestly, I don't think the instruments were mixed effectively. Your filter modulations are okay, but I think you should have lowered one or a few frequency bands because I hear some clipping.

The filtered instrument sounds a bit weak. Its all muffle sounding. I think your spreader covers too large of a frequency range...that is if you even used a spreader at all. You should if you didn't for all your future songs.

People tend to like the panning so try some tremelo. Makes your instruments sound much better.

The bass is pretty fat which I like but because it seems so subbed, there is a lack of tonality to it. Needs a fix on the timbre.

Just my personal opinion but at 13 seconds that new instrument (somewhat generic sounding) needs to be changed. Maybe your a happy hardcore fan thus you like the cheesy sounding instruments, but I'm more toward the dirty hardcore style. Again this is just my personal preference.

The last thing I have to say is try this:
-before even composing a song, work on making great sounding instruments. So before the music pattern, make the instruments sound good. Start making the song after you got a good set of instruments.

Hi Alex,

Hmm, yes the dancy bass pattern. Reminds me of Nate's stuff. Here is what I thought.

1) Cheesy intro fx...but it actually started sounding better when the sweeping fx modulated into some high filtered sound. I think it should have been the high pass filtered fx entirely. The brief trance lead sound after the fx sound was a nice idea. Felt more epic I guess.
2) Around 7 seconds the background pad becomes noticeable and I'm not a fan of generic sounding instruments. I think you could have found a better pad or made better adjustments to it. However, the bass was much better sounding. The piano seemed to sound natural. No excess effects on one of the best instruments (my opinion) so again good job.
3) 58 seconds is a good example how I would like your instruments to sound more of. The snare sounds really crisp and clear and I want to hear that from the rest of your instruments. They all sound a bit messy and fuzzy unclear (ignore the bad english). Whatever you did to make the snare that clear sounding....do to the rest of your instruments.
4) I felt like the song just kept on repeating. Never changing for such a long time until 1:56. Really, its only the piano that changed while the pad and bass are playing the exact same thing. I don't think the wierd digital sounding instrument was such a great idea. It sounds very interesting, but doesn't fit for this song. Maybe use it in a techno song maybe?
5) Kudos on the slowing of the tempo.
6) You know what would be really cool to do with your fx sounds...many professionals do this. They put a sidechain on the fx sounds. Sidechain it to your kicks to get that nice sucking in and out fx sound.

Overall, I would have liked more different patterns used. The song is not too short. Its already 3:31 minutes which is a good length. Most radio edit songs are around that length so don't make it longer. 5/5 and 9/10 review.

thanks. yer i had a little bit of trouble with some of the instruments. the bass had a tendency to saturate the sound a little and yer the pad was quite generic i have to admit. i can always just change that! Ill see what i can do about the fuzziness and thanks anyways for reviewing. its much appreciated!
